Bronchobiliary fistula secondary to biliary stricture after hepatectomy.

چکیده
A 63-year-old woman with compensated HCV-induced liver cirrhosis underwent a right hepatectomy through thoracophrenolaparotomy due to a giant hydatid cyst (segments 6, 7, 8) in 1977, which developed an external biliary fistula complication from 1980 on. Twenty-six years after hepatectomy, at the time of external biliary fistula close, she showed expectoration of bile, and bronchoscopy discovered bile in the bronchial tree. Magnetic resonance cholangiography and percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography showed a common hepatic duct stricture, intrahepatic duct dilation, and bronchobiliary fistula. Due to its benign character, we decided to treat the stricture with dilation and placement of a bile drainage, thus solving the situation. Bronchobiliary fistula is an uncommon condition usually seen in endemic regions as a complication of hydatid or amoebic disease (4). In Western society, bile obstruction, Fig.1.Magnetic resonance cholangiography: a filiform stricture at the common hepatic duct (red arrowhead), and dilation of the left intrahepatic duct (short red arrow). Bronchobiliary fistula (long red arrow).

Bronchobiliary fistula caused after hepatectomy for hepatocellular carcinoma: a case report
BACKGROUND A bronchobiliary fistula, an intercommunication between the biliary tract and bronchial trees, is an extremely rare complication after hepatectomy. CASE PRESENTATION A 70-year-old male underwent partial resection of the liver for recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma under a thoracoabdominal approach. The immediate postoperative clinical course was uneventful, but the patient was febr...
متن کاملSuccessful resolution of bronchobiliary and biliocutaneous fistula by prolonged endoscopic transpapillary biliary drainage.
Bronchobiliary fistula is a rare condition that has been usually treated surgically. We report successful resolution of a rare case of combined bronchobiliary and biliocutaneous fistula by prolonged endoscopic transpapillary biliary drainage. The patient developed these fistulae following right hepatectomy for blunt trauma to the abdomen. Although endoscopic biliary drainage has been reported t...
متن کاملSuccessful percutaneous management of bronchobiliary fistula after radiofrequency ablation of metastatic cholangiocarcinoma in a patient who has a postoperative stricture of hepaticojejunostomy site
Bronchobiliary fistula (BBF) is a rare condition that is defined as an abnormal communication between the biliary system and bronchial tree. Furthermore, a BBF is an extremely rare complication of radiofrequency ablation (RFA). A 54 year-old man with a history of extrahepatic biliary cancer had been suffering with a benign stricture of hepaticojejunostomy site and was treated with RFA for metas...
متن کاملBronchobiliary fistula
Bronchobiliary fistula is a very rare complication of liver abscess. It presents with biliptysis (bile in cough), and chronic cough. Here we present a case of intractable biliptysis from a bronchobiliary fistula secondary to a liver abscess with biliary obstruction.
متن کاملThoracoscopic surgery for bronchobiliary fistula: a case report
The bronchobiliary fistula is an abnormal interconnection between the biliary tract and bronchial trees. It is rare but troublesome. The management of such fistula is a challenge. Surgical intervention is considered after failure of conservative treatment. Here we presented the successful video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery for secondary bronchobiliary fistula in 68-year-old hepatocellular car...
